I offer IRB and human subjects related support to grounded in experience, regulatory fluency, and a commitment to ethical research.

As an External IRB Member, I bring a non-affiliated, independent perspective to the review of projects. My role includes reviewing exempt, expedited, and full-board protocols, evaluating risk-benefit balance, ensuring protections for human participants, and contributing to deliberations with an emphasis on public accountability and ethical integrity.

I also support research teams in preparing IRB submissions by helping them clarify study design, complete required documentation, draft consent forms, and align protocols with applicable ethical and regulatory standards.   In addition, I have developed logic-based review determination forms that guide users through key decision points such as whether human subjects are involved, what data storage safeguards are required, and whether the activity qualifies as research. If it does, the tool helps identify whether the project is likely to require exempt, expedited, or full board review. This process gives researchers early clarity on the type of IRB review their project is likely to need. 

While my subject matter expertise lies in developmental psychology, education, and social-behavioral health, I provide guidance across disciplines to ensure sound, responsible study planning and submission.

I currently hold human subjects protection certification through CITI and stay current with federal regulations and ethical guidelines.

I help researchers and organizations design effective data collection strategies tailored to their goals, contexts, and ethical responsibilities. My support includes developing protocols for collecting new data such as surveys, interviews, focus groups, and structured observations, as well as sourcing and preparing extant data from public or institutional databases.

With a Ph.D. in Systems Science: Psychology and a specialization in observational methodology, I bring deep expertise in developing tools that capture rich, reliable data across diverse contexts. I’ve created customized observation techniques for classroom research, legal consulting, and program evaluation. I also design accessible, purpose-driven surveys and qualitative protocols for interviews and focus groups. 

In addition to tool and protocol development, I advise on data governance practices including secure data storage, confidentiality of personally identifiable information (PII), and alignment with institutional and regulatory standards.  This includes ensuring data collection plans are IRB-ready when applicable and offer dedicated IRB support as as well (see that section above).

From project ideation to execution and final presentation, my guidance includes idea development, project design, protocol development, literature reviews, selecting appropriate methodologies writing support, and time management strategies.
